Dates: 18th – 24th June 2017
The course for anyone wishing to learn how to work with free motion embroidery or improve on their machine embroidery skills and feel at ease withthis medium.
How to be truly creative with machine embroidery. An observation of a simple subject such as a shell, flower, lichen, rust etc, at the beginning of the course helps you to explore an A-Z of techniques within a context of creative ideas leading towards a useful collection of samples and perhaps one or two small finished pieces. Right from the start you are encouraged to find personal responses to the colours and textures of your chosen object using the techniques demonstrated. You recive all the help you need to understand your machine and how to move and manipulate the fabric underneath it. You will learn the textural possibilities of straight stitch and zigzag , tension techniques, dissolvable fabrics as supports for other materials and lacy effects, and finally, if you wish, time on the embellisher to learn the potential of this superb machine.
You will have all the help you need to succeed throughout the course—so don’t worry about the design elements of the course, you will surprise yourself! There are demonstrations, information and lots of practice throughout. If you can’t bring your own machine will we lend you the closest to yours that we have.
Feeling at ease with machine embroidery opens so many other doors in textile decoration and manipulation.
Let Val’s confidence and love of machines help you to appreciate them too – make friends with yours!
