Sea themes Mixed media

Sea Themes : Mixed media Dates: 19th – 25th September 2019   The course starts with a day on the Ile de ré exploring this wonderful seaside venue collecting ideas, bits and pieces, photos and visual information. Following on, a series of exercises will help to move away from the purely representational towards mixed media surfaces in abstraction or semi-abstraction. You will surprise yourself! Impression Gardens

Dates: 16th to 22nd June 2019 Impression Gardens A new course centring on my technique of monotype impressions with procion dye. You will learn this exciting and original technique to express the gardens and flowers that you will have seen on our first days visit. Following on from your monotype impressions you will embroider a number of creations using different techniques of embroidery, embellishment, and the embellisher machine.  You will go home with two or three embroideries finished in an impressionist or abstract expressionist style. Colour on cloth – Dyeing School

Dates: 30th June – 6th July 2019 Dye and print techniques for surface design and embroidery A variety of fabric surface colouration techniques are explored in this course, including use of procion dyes, ink and paint. Painting cloth, screen and thermofax printing, breakdown printing, photo lamination, monoprinting and collagraphy as methods of colouring cloth will all be covered to build up a beautiful layered surface. We also look at how to respond to the fabrics thus created with embroidery and embellishing techniques to create a rich and intricate surface in order to go one step further with your “Art Cloth”. Dates: 10th – 16th June 2018 Gardens in Embroidery After visiting local gardens on the first day to find inspiration for visual notes or photographs, you will learn how to make and use a workbook for personal advancement in textiles, design and embroidery from a garden environment. Techniques used on the course will be many and varied and reflect the needs of the participants and the developing projects. We may look at traditional ways of responding to the garden as a realistic theme, but also in a more abstract or conceptual way. Paper in Textile Art

Dates: 3rd – 9th July 2016 Masses of interesting techniques for an exciting and very full course all about paper in relation to textile and embroidered surfaces. Included in the course are different approaches for including paper in stitching and stitching in paper. You will learn easy techniques for creating and manipulating paper with silk and other fibres. Discover simple techniques to enjoy creating very fine, lacey and even transparent papers.
